Haiti

It’s been 8 years since the devastating earthquake in Haiti. In the years since, there has been rebuilding, more tragedy, and rebuilding again. One of the great honors of my life was to join the relief efforts in this magical country, and to bring gifts and throw Christmas parties for children; to dance, sing, laugh, celebrate, and play with my friends there; to witness the immense resilience, strength, hope, creativity, and beauty of the people there; to work on human rights, legal, and social justice issues there; to see the deep reserves of courage amidst the rebuilding, which continues to this day.

A piece of my heart lives in Haiti, and always will. I love you.

As is said in Haitian creole, “tout moun se moun” which means “every person is a person.” This wisdom is at the heart of my life’s work and the work of so many others. Every person is a human being, and we are equal from the day we are born, no matter where that is.

Join me in celebrating Haiti, including its bright future, and the humanity that binds us all.

And consider helping the efforts of some of the many orgs working every day to support empowering recovery initiatives in Haiti:
